1. What is Shaker® ?
Shaker is an online presentation service created to enable
users to easily produce rich, visually engaging business presentations.
Shaker's core module is a RIA built with Macromedia®
Flash MX® technology that
won the 2003
Flashforward Flash Film Festival's Technical Merit category
award.
2. Where can I see a demo
of Shaker®?
Since Shaker® is online software,
you can not only see a demo, but try the application right
away, without needing to install anything on your system.
On the home page of our website, www.shaker.hu,
click the box reading 'take a look'. This will launch a presentation
that we made to introduce Shaker.
3. What happens if I register
for your free trial?
After submitting the registration form, we will immediately
send you your trial access codes (username and password).
Once you have these, visit our website, and click the Customer
Login icon to go to the login page. Here, type in your username
and password and click enter.
4. Where do I start to
create a new presentation in Shaker?
Once you're logged in, you are brought to your dedicated user
page on the Shaker system. In fact, you are directly brought
to the Folders file-management utility of our system. This
is your file manager utility, so this is what you use to view,
open, create, delete, share or clone your presentations.
To create a new presentation, click the 'new' button located
in the row of buttons below the first panel of the Folders
utility. On the next page, you should give a title for your
presentation, choose one of the available presentation templates
to use, then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click
the 'create new presentation' button. This initiates a download
process, which terminates by opening an empty presentation.
5. How can I buy a Shaker®
license?
You can enter our webshop by clicking the Shop menu on our
homepage, where you can buy 12 month subscriptions to Shaker®
using your credit card.
If you want to buy a Shaker® subscription, please read our
Licensing Terms and Pricelist, accessed also from our home
page.
6. How can I get a custom-made
presentation template?
Shaker®'s template structure is an open structure, meaning
that any experienced Flash designer can build templates for
Shaker®. On a case-to-case basis Mimoza designers will create
custom-made templates. Template design costs will vary depending
on the complexity of the template requested.
7. What software/hardware environment
is required to use Shaker®?
In principle, Shaker® will
run in any software/hardware environment where a browser software
with Macromedia®'s free Flash Player™ Plug-in installed is available.
Shaker® requires only these
widely accessible and free third-party software to run. Macromedia®'s
Flash Player™ is available
for most common OS-s and browsers, including most common Windows
PC, Mac or Linux configurations.
Shaker was tested on Internet Explorer® 5.5 and up and Netscape®
7.0 and up browsers, so presentation editing is only supported
for these two browsers (for both Windows and Mac versions).
8. How can I use Shaker
in a conference room where there is no internet connection
available?
Shaker® lets you export your presentations into traditional
files that you can save to your PC or a CD. You can make standalone
files to run on a Windows® platforms (.exe). The export function
also lets you create plain .swf files (Macromedia® Flash MX®
native file format) that can be easily inserted into your
existing website. The file export function is accessed through
the Folders file management utility.
9. How do I send presentations
that I've made with Shaker® to my partners?
Shaker® supports the following means of distribution:
Online:
- you can create any number of 'guest' accounts for your clients/partners.
guests can view but cannot edit the presentations you share
with them.
- you can export your presentation to .swf format, and easily
insert it into your existing corporate website.
- you can use the digital handout feature, which allows you
to create multiple 'guest' users for the same presentation
in one go.
Offline:
- you can create standalone files for Windows systems, and
distribute these via e-mail or on a CD-ROM disk.
Also, you can make printouts of your slides, and distribute
those.
10. A software installed
on my own PC is more reliable, don't you think?
Just think about this: where do you prefer storing your important
corporate data - on your company's server, or on your own
PC? Our server runs in a secure server room, with guaranteed
bandwidth, protected by an industrial class firewall. User's
files are protected by the username/password access authorization
procedure our system uses when you log in. The internet data
communication that goes on between our server and a client
PC is encrypted, providing much greater security than e.g.
e-mail communication. Presentation data is protected by autosave
and file recovery mechanisms that will save and recover unsaved
information in the event of a connection failure or some other
technical problem.
11. What is the typical
size of Shaker presentation files?
Macromedia® Flash MX® is a technology optimized for the web,
so file sizes are typically small. For instance, an exported,
standalone presentation file (.exe) will typically be around
1.2 Megabytes, and this includes the Shaker software, the
presentation template, the presentation content, and the Flash™
Player needed to play the presentation. The final size of
your presentation will mostly depend on the number of images,
audio/video material you include in your presentation, as
these files are inserted into the presentation with their
original file sizes.
12. What multimedia elements
can I use with Shaker®?
Image files of .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .png, .bmp, and .tga
format. Image formats that support transparency (.png) will
be displayed with their original transparency.
Video/audio: Shaker® will use video and audio materials
converted to the .swf file format (Flash's native file format)
